THE DIOCESAN REGISTRY
The Diocesan Registry provides legal advice to the Bishop and the Diocese. The office also administers the judicial Faculty process and the Consistory Court.
The main areas of work of the Diocesan Registry include:
- giving general legal advice to clergy, parish officers, boards and committees about their functions;
- responding to enquires from clergy, parish officers and the public relating to marriage, baptism, confirmation and burial;
- issuing marriage licences;
- administering the court office of the Consistory Court of the Diocese and processing Petitions for Faculties;
- issuing documentation to enable burial grounds to be consecrated;
- issuing documentation appointing clergy and licenced lay ministers to their posts;
- maintaining the Patronage Register and other linked functions; and
- maintaining various diocesan records.
The Registry is based in Jubilee House.
Amanda Redgate is the Diocesan Registrar. She is the legal officer to the Diocese and is responsible for providing legal advice to the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham and the wider Diocese on all ecclesiastical matters. Amanda is assisted by the Registry Clerk, Eleanor Dunleavy.

Chancellor
The Chancellor for the Diocese is Mark Ockelton. The Chancellor is the judge for the Diocese in matters of church law, which are heard in a Consistory Court. He also acts as the Bishop’s legal advisor.
